In a post on Facebook, Hathaway wrote that she noticed someone taking a photo of her on the beach and figured that something like that should be done with her consent.
She added, "I figure if this kind of photo is going to be out in the world it should at least be an image that makes me happy."
The actress then wished her fans a bright year ahead.
