Johnny Depp settles lawsuits involving former managers

LOS ANGELES — Johnny Depp has settled lawsuits with his former business managers that put a spotlight on the actor’s lavish lifestyle.

Depp’s representatives said on Monday that the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star had settled litigation filed against The Management Group, which he accused in January 2017 seeking more than $25 million over alleged financial abuse and negligence. No details of the settlement were released.

Depp had accused the firm of filing his taxes late, costing him $7.5 million in penalties. The firm denied filing the returns late, and said Depp’s taxes were paid when the star had money available to pay them.

The firm also countersued and argued that Depp was solely to blame for his money troubles, spending more than $2 million. That lawsuit said Depp paid more than $75 million to buy and maintain 14 homes, including a French chateau and a chain of islands in the Bahamas, as well as a 150-foot yacht, private jet travel and expensive art collection.

The cases had sparked name-calling on both sides, with a spokesman for Depp’s former managers calling the actor a “habitual liar” in August 2017.

Lawyers for The Management Group declined comment Monday.

A statement released by a Depp spokesperson said that settling the case, which had been scheduled to begin trial next month, would allow him to focus on touring with his band, Hollywood Vampires, and promoting the latest film based on J.K. Rowling’s books, “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.”

The film is scheduled to be released later in November. MKH

Johnny Depp’s wife files for divorce in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES — Johnny Depp’s wife has filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences after 15 months of marriage.

Amber Depp, an actress known as Amber Heard, filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court and is seeking spousal support from the Oscar-nominated actor.

Heard listed their date of separation as Sunday. The pair has no children together.

Depp and Heard met while co-starring in the 2011 film “The Rum Diary.” Depp’s latest film, “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” is due to be released on Friday.

The actors have been embroiled in a dispute with Australia’s deputy prime minister, who last year threatened to euthanize their dogs, Boo and Pistol, after they were illegally smuggled into the country. Heard pleaded guilty last month to falsifying documents to conceal the pets when she arrived by private jet to join her husband on the set of the fifth movie in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.

The pair videotaped an apology as part of a deal that allowed Heard to avoid a conviction. But the actors have been derided because of their wooden deliveries in the film.

Earlier this week, the deputy prime minister, Barnaby Joyce, boasted that he had gotten inside Depp’s head like fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter after the actor quipped that the ruddy-faced lawmaker appeared to be “inbred with a tomato” during an interview on the U.S. talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Depp has one previous marriage and was in a long relationship with French actress and model Vanessa Paradis before he began dating Heard.

The divorce was first reported Wednesday by celebrity website TMZ.

WATCH: Johnny Depp spoofs Donald Trump in ‘mockumentary’

Shortly after winning the New Hampshire primaries last Tuesday (US time), real estate mogul and Republican presidential aspirant Donald Trump has become the subject of a new “mockumentary”—starring no less than multi-awarded actor Johnny Depp.

In the 50-minute film produced by comedy website “Funny Or Die,” Depp starred in a recently-unearthed made-to-TV film supposedly based on Trump’s best-selling book “The Art of the Deal.”

Director Ron Howard, who served as the narrator in the film, said that the “The Art of the Deal was almost never seen. It was preempted by Monday night football in 1988.” He said that it was bumped after the football game went overtime.

Howard then said that he had to fight a woman in a yard sale to get the tape.

The film opened with Trump, as a 10-year-old boy, who wanted to have his own Taj Mahal after seeing a photo of the iconic structure.

“So I vowed that day to buy my own Taj Mahal. Thirty years later, I got my chance. This one was even classier because it was a casino and it was in a place way more beautiful than India: New Jersey,” he said.

Depp earned praises for his spot-on portrayal of the polarizing political figure as he nailed “The Donald’s” signature gestures and voice.

The page which shows the movie on the Funny or Die’s website already had 1.3 million views.

Trump has not yet reacted on the film as of this writing. AJH

Johnny Depp confirms engagement to actress Amber Heard

LOS ANGELES - Actor Johnny Depp is engaged to marry actress Amber Heard, who he calls "a Southern belle and sweet as can be and very good for me" in an interview with NBC's "Today" show to air on Friday.

The 50-year-old "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor confirmed the news days after he was spotted wearing a woman's engagement ring on his left index hand, which set off speculation that he was to wed Heard.

Heard, a 27-year-old Texas native, co-starred with Depp in 2011's "The Rum Diary." The following year, Depp split from his long-time partner, the French actress Vanessa Paridis, with whom he has two children.

Depp, who is currently promoting his new sci-fi film "Transcendence," also called Heard "a wonderful girl. She's sharp as a tack," according to a "Today" transcript released on Thursday.

Depp's representatives did not respond to requests for comment.  — Reuters
