Android Nougat update rolls out to Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

Android Nougat is finally making its way to Samsung smartphones starting with the current flagship Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

The version number G935FXXU1DPLR, which also includes the January security patch, has been spotted in some S7 and S7 Edge devices, reports Tech Radar.

This initial wave of updates is likely to be a limited soak test, enabling devices that get the update later to have a different version number. However, with beta testing having been wrapped up in December, it also stands to reason that most users will be getting the Nougat update soon.


There is currently no specific data on what the features of the upgrade are but going by the beta tests, big changes are to be expected. This includes grouped notifications, being able to change the resolution, and a new interface design, to name a few. Alfred Bayle

New iPhone may have wireless charging feature

While Apple is trying to keep a lid on the new iPhone 7 Plus until next year, people can’t wait to get a peek of what it could possibly be, including the features that it may come equipped with.

Tech Radar reports on some of the latest leaked information about the upcoming iPhone including its wireless charging capabilities.

A leaked slide also mentioned that the upcoming iPhone will have an IP68 certification, which means that it will be dust- and water-resistant. It will have a 12MP dual-lens camera, as well.

These are just some of the possible features in store to be divulged in 2017, but Apple may still have a few surprises up its sleeve that have escaped from being leaked. Alfred Bayle

Microsoft all-in-one Surface PC on the drawing board

Microsoft could be nearing the release of an all-in-one PC, similar to the Apple iMac, except that it will be equipped with the same Surface technology as the Surface Book and other 2-in-1 devices.

According to a report on Tech Radar, several sources have directly asked Microsoft about a rumored Surface AIO and the closest estimated release date would be the end of the year.

The information from Microsoft suggests that the Surface AIO would bridge the gap between the first- and second-generation Surface books.

Other indicators regarding the release of a Surface AIO are said to be tied to Intel’s release of its new Kaby Lake CPUs.

As far as how the Surface AIO would fit in the customer’s lifestyle, it is said that it will be positioned as a living room computer that will handle serving multimedia content. It will also be able to browse the internet and allow for document and spreadsheet editing. Alfred Bayle

Microsoft Edge beats Chrome in power efficiency

A recent comparative test showed that Microsoft’s Edge web browser beat Chrome and others in terms of power efficiency. Edge appeared to be the most power-efficient browser to date.

According to a report on Tech Radar, the Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Opera were tested simultaneously to see which notebook the browsers ran on would run out of juice first. The notebooks were put through a range of tasks including opening sites, adding tabs, rolling through pages and playing videos.

The Edge-equipped notebook lasted for around 7 hours and 22 minutes, followed by Opera at 6 hours, 18 minutes; Firefox at 5 hours and 9 minutes; and Chrome with only 4 hours and 20 minutes to show for.

It would seem that Microsoft is more than ecstatic about its victory and is saying that there will be more efficiency tweaks when its Windows 10 update comes out next month. This includes using less memory and CPU cycles. Alfred Bayle
