Apple iOS 10 update causing problems for some iPhone users

Apple had been heavily marketing the new iOS update a couple of months back but when the time came for it to be released, trouble brewed as multiple complaints about the update streamed over social media.

For some users, the update process would fail and would be accompanied by a message asking them to plug the iOS device into a PC or Mac for complete system restoration, reports The Verge.

A spokesperson from Apple said in a statement to The Verge, “We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability. The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers.”

Although the initial installation bug proved to be a major headache for a number of affected users, Apple says this has been fixed and that their customers will now be able to safely update their iOS 10 devices. But just in case, it would be wise to keep a backup for an iOS device before proceeding with the update.  Alfred Bayle

Rock station NU107 denies ties with online app

The iconic rock station NU107 is not back nor is it coming back anytime soon.

The website in question, www.nu107rock.com, streams local rock music while also urging it’s viewers to install that application on their Android and IOS devices.

Meanwhile, fans online expressed their delight upon discovering that country’s premiere rock station  has returned digitally, but NU107 management insists that the site is a hoax, and a false attempt to generate sales by illegally using their brand and taking advantage of their loyal fan base.

NU 107 signed off for the last time at exactly midnight of November 8, 2010 in a highly publicized event held at their station in Pasig.  Hundreds of supporters flocked the area, while local rock bands like Urbandub and Itchyworms played during the event.

The station was reformatted and renamed to 107.5 Win Radio which ultimately became Wish 1075.

Final Fantasy VII comes to iOS devices

Even though a remake of Final Fantasy VII is confirmed and on the way, it will still be a long wait until fans of the classic JRPG finally get their hands on it when it comes first to Playstation 4 first and other next generation platforms soon after. Fortunately, Square Enix has come up with a good way to reignite those nostalgia taste buds for those who are constantly on the go, as the iOS version of Final Fantasy VII has officially hit the App Store and is now ready for download anytime, anywhere, according to The Next Web.

As a port of the PC version released on Steam in 2013, the iOS version of FFVII was announced by Square Enix on E3 this year for a summer release.  They pretty much kept their word on that promise, and the game is now available to download for iOS powered devices such as the iPhone 5S, iPad mini 2, and the 3rd Generation iPad. The game requires iOS 8.0 and 4GB worth of space to download, and 2GB of memory to play and install, so it’s wise to free up memory before purchasing the game, which costs $15.99.

What’s interesting about the iOS version is that Square Enix not only incorporated touch controls, but also giving players the option to turn off random encounters in the game. That pretty much means that fans can speed run and avoid unnecessary battles if they want to finish the game fast.

Interesting enough, the launch trailer is the exact same one Square Enix used to announce the disappointing Playstation 4 port of the PC Version of Final Fantasy VII – which preceded the news and official announcement of the remake that happened on E3 this year.

Originally released in 1997 for the original Sony Playstation, Final Fantasy VII followed the story of a mercenary named Cloud Strife and a renegade group called AVALANCHE as they sought to save the planet from the abuse and evil machinations of the Shinra Electric Power Company. Along the course of the adventure, Cloud recovers his true memories and tries to come to terms with his past, bonding with his allies and meeting new challenges, which includes combating his former idol turned enemy in Sephiroth. — GMA News

Apple working on fix for ‘white screen of death’ in iOS

If Microsoft's Windows has its so-called Blue Screen of Death to indicate a fatal error, Apple has something similar for its mobile devices such as the iPhone, iPad, and iPod.

The White (or Black) Screen of Death has been a nagging problem for users of Apple devices who upgraded to iOS 7, tech site Mashable said—and Apple is working on a fix.

"We have a fix in an upcoming software update for a bug that can occasionally cause a home screen crash," Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller told Mashable.


Apple's fix may be included in iOS 7.1, which is in its fourth beta. Mashable said iOS 7.1 may also "bring some minor UI and design changes."

Mashable noted the “white/black screen of death” abruptly causes a soft reboot of the iPhone.

It said complaints started to surface as early as September last year on Apple's discussion forums.

Citing various accounts, it said the color of the boot-up screen would depend on the color of the iPhone's face.

"A white iPhone face produces a white boot up screen with a black Apple logo, while a device with a black face produces a black screen with a white Apple logo," it said.

Citing some users' complaints, Mashable said the bug may activate once iPhone’s battery level dips to 30 percent. — VC, GMA News

Google Play Movies, TV now available on iOS devices

Good news for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users: you can now access content from Google Play Movies and TV.

This was the latest service Google has made available for Apple device users, tech site Gizmodo reported.

"This is significant not just because it brings Google's formidable library of content to iOS, but because of the capabilities it finally bestows upon iPhone-using Chromecasters," Gizmodo said.

It added this was the latest Google service to be readied for iOS after Google Play Books and Google Play Music.

Until now, iPhone users who had Chromecast could watch Netflix and Hulu Plus, but could not quite access more recent movie content.

Google Play Movies and TV has a catalog comparable to Amazon Video On Demand or Apple's iTunes, Gizmodo noted.

"Google Play Movies and TV brings in rentable and purchasable streaming movies to iOS, and often for cheaper. This can then be streamed directly to the TV via Chromecast," it said.

However, Gizmodo said a user still cannot buy any content through the app itself due to Apple's App Store restrictions.

Also, it said video will only play in standard definition (SD) when viewing on the phone, compared to the full HD experience if one plays through Chromecast.

Users will also be limited to streaming over Wi-Fi and may not save content for later, offline viewing. — KDM, GMA News
