Official Game of Thrones video game slated for 2014

Those who’ve played Telltale Games’ impressive series of graphic adventure games like The Walking Dead and Monkey Island can look forward another winning title in the making, as the developer has officially announced that they will be adapting the epic medieval fantasy series “Game Of Thrones” into a game series come sometime in 2014, according to Otaku.com.

Based on the popular HBO fantasy drama series of the same name that was in turn adapted from author George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series of novels, the game was rumored to be in the works some weeks ago, and was only confirmed this past weekend during Spike’s annual Video Game Awards event.

While there’s yet to be any official gameplay footage for the game, a teaser announcement was shown for the audience to viewers to marvel at:

Story arc

Created by David Benioff and D.B Weiss for television, Game of Thrones chronicles the events and battles occurring the fictional lands of Westeros and Essos, where diverse plot threads and storylines carry on and subtly converge with one another.

The central arc focuses on noble houses engaging in warfare to claim right over the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. The second arc focuses on an impending threat from creatures known as the “Others”, who have mysteriously reemerge after thousands of years of disappearance and slumber.

The final arc follows the adventures of an exiled and beautiful woman named Daenerys of House Targaryen, who builds an army on the East to reclaim her family’s lost birthright that is the Iron Throne in the west.

Running already for three seasons and with the fourth premiering this coming Spring 2014, Game Of Thrones has quickly become a pop culture staple, thanks to its brilliant storytelling and diverse cast of actors and actresses that bring life to the world of Westeros.

Character diversity

Lord of The Rings star and Boromir actor Sean Bean led the cast in the first season as principle character Edward “Ned” Stark of the noble Stark family, who helped carry the show until the character was executed, thereby triggering the War for the Iron Throne that the show and book currently chronicle to date.

Afterwards, the shows other remarkable talents carried on in the spotlight, highlighted by the groundbreaking performance of Peter Dinklage, who played the “half-man” and intellectual dwarf Tyrion Lannister, a role which earned the actor an Emmy and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor.

It’s this diversity and attention to casting that has earned the show critical acclaim and praise, and hopefully it will also carry to Telltale Games’ video game adaptation next year.
