When skincare meets makeup: Introducing the BYS Cosmetics Full Coverage line

Makeup is empowering. These days, this message rings true as the craze for cosmetics is all about creating the best version of yourself.

This is why skincare-infused makeup products are quite popular. Beauty junkies everywhere are all about makeup that doesn’t just help them change up their look but also something that helps them feel comfortable with their natural skin.

BYS Cosmetics is all about this too. That’s why they created the Full Coverage line. The skin-perfecting formula won’t just help you cover up your blemishes, it clears your skin and keeps it looking its best. Backed by customer-focused research, the Full Coverage line marries the quick solution base makeup gives with the long-term effects of various skincare ingredients.

Skincare + makeup = Power combo

The BYS Cosmetics Full Coverage line features four main ingredients to help your skin look better every time you use it.  You get the benefits of Vitamin E for hydration. Add to that the wonders of hyaluronic acid, often praised by dermatologists for keeping skin elasticity. Say good-bye to fine lines!

Aloe Vera is also in the mix for maximum levels of moisture. This helps minimize your acne outbreaks due to skin dryness and maintains the skin’s plumpness.

Coconut water, a favorite secret of the beauty world, rounds up this ensemble for its anti-aging benefits.

Formulated for your needs

In this line, you get three different formulations. All of which you can use together for a flawless and long-lasting base. You may also just use one or combine two of your liking, depending on your preference.

If you want coverage for your entire face that’s buildable without being cake-y, reach for the Full Coverage Foundation. With a pump bottle, you don’t have to worry about using too much and keeping the foundation sanitary while you’re traveling.

This works best with the BYS Primer.

Next in the line is the Full Coverage Concealer. This boasts of silky texture and a formula that suits all skin types. For “no-makeup-makeup days,” this just might what you need. Tip: You can use your normal shade for concealer, a lighter shade for a subtle highlight, and a darker shade for your contour.

If you’re in search of a powder that provides coverage and effectively sets your liquid makeup, BYS Cosmetics has the Full Coverage Pressed Powder. Like the liquid foundation, you can layer this for extra coverage. Take it with you for quick touch-ups and to control midday shine.

All three formulations are available in four shades: Ivory, Natural Beige, Medium Beige, and Sand Beige.

Kind to all

Another thing about makeup these days: It should also help make the world prettier too. This is why BYS Cosmetics is committed to keeping its products earth-friendly.

The Full Coverage Line is cruelty-free, meaning it is not tested on animals and that’s 100 percent PETA-approved. It’s You can be guaranteed you only get the good stuff as it’s vegan, paraben-free, and hypoallergenic.

Your new routine

Given the options and benefits of the Full Coverage line, your every day makeup routine just got a boost. You get long-lasting coverage without the need to worry. You can do a range of looks with a perfect base or even just use it on its own to help you show off your skin.

Plus it’s accessible: BYS Cosmetics is available at SM Beauty Stores and Watsons branches nationwide.

Will painting your teeth pink be the next big beauty trend?

Forget about flashing your pearly whites this holiday season: rainbow-colored teeth are in, apparently.

The latest offbeat beauty trend is for teeth that have been painted a colorful hue, such as pink, green, or even metallic copper, thanks to the launch of Chrom Temporary Tooth Polish.

The product, which acts like a nail polish but for your gnashers, can be used to color in your entire mouth, or just highlight one or two “accent teeth.” The formula, which lasts for up to 24 hours but can be removed in seconds, claims to be both smudge-free and taste-free, and comes in ten vibrant shades.

“We see this becoming commonplace — everything from a club vibe to an everyday workplace fashion accent,” the brand’s creator, David Silverstein, told the New York Post. He added: “Perhaps you go to work with one tooth [that] matches your nail polish or your hair color.”

If blue teeth isn’t an interesting enough look for you, don’t panic: according to the publication, a glitter version of the product is also in the works.

The beauty trend for all things rainbow-colored has been dominating the industry for some time now, with “rainbow hair” turning into a major craze, thanks to various reincarnations such as “Brony hair”, which was inspired by the 1980s TV franchise “My Little Pony”, “LaCroix Hair” inspired by the soda water brand’s candy-hued packaging, and neon hair which rose to prominence in the summer of last year. Billionaire L’Oreal heiress Bettencourt dies aged 94

PARIS - French businesswoman and billionaire Liliane Bettencourt, whose family founded L'Oreal and still owns the largest stake in the cosmetics giant, has died aged 94, her daughter said on Thursday.

Bettencourt, listed by Forbes as the world's richest woman, was the heiress to the beauty and cosmetics company her father founded just over a century ago as a maker of hair dye.

Her death opens a new phase for L'Oreal, France's fourth-largest listed company, altering the relationship it has with key shareholder Nestle, the Swiss food company.

Bettencourt and her family owned 33 percent of the company. Her daughter Françoise Bettencourt-Meyers, who sits on L'Oreal's board along with her own son, said in a statement the family remained committed to the company and its management team.

"My mother left peacefully," Bettencourt-Meyers said, adding that she had died during Wednesday night at her home in Paris.

"I would like to reiterate, on behalf of our family, our entire commitment and loyalty to L'Oreal and to renew my confidence in its President Jean-Paul Agon and his teams worldwide."

In 2011 Agon was appointed chairman and chief executive of L'Oreal, owner of the Lancome and Maybelline beauty and make-up brands and of Garnier shampoos.

Nestle, which owns just over 23 percent of L'Oreal, had agreed with the founding family that the two parties could not increase their stakes during Liliane Bettencourt's lifetime and for at least six months after her death.

The Swiss company has been a major investor since 1974, when Bettencourt entrusted nearly half of her own stake in the firm to Nestle in exchange for a three percent holding in the Swiss company. She made the move out of fear that L'Oreal might be nationalised if the Socialists came to power in France.

Activist hedge fund Third Point recently urged Nestle — which brought in a new chief executive, Mark Schneider, earlier this year — to sell down its stake as part of efforts to improve its performance.

A Nestle spokeswoman on Thursday did not comment on the company's stake, only saying: "It's time to send our sincere condolences to Madame Bettencourt's family."

Legal battles

Fascination with Bettencourt's wealth, complex family relations and scandal-tinged life often propelled her into society pages and headlines, though she remained private and rarely gave interviews.

Her net worth was estimated at $39.5 billion earlier this year by Forbes, making her the world's richest woman and among the 20 wealthiest people in the world.

In a testament to the influence L'Oreal came to have in France, Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire on Thursday praised the stability Bettencourt had brought to the company through her ownership and said in a statement he hoped that the firm would maintain its close ties with its home market.

The marriage of the heiress to French politician Andre Bettencourt drew scrutiny when it emerged he had written anti-Semitic tracts at the start of World War Two. And Bettencourt was caught up in high-profile legal feuds almost until the last.

She had been under the guardianship of family members since a court fight, known as the "Bettencourt affair", ended with a ruling in 2011 that she was incapable of looking after her fortune because she suffered from dementia and had been exploited.

The case — brought By her daughter Françoise And which soured relations between the two — centered on Francois-Marie Banier, a celebrity photographer who befriended Bettencourt in the 1980s and received lavish gifts from her, including life insurance policies worth $400 million.

Another strand of the sprawling affair later led to allegations of illegal payments by Bettencourt to members of the French government associated with former president Nicolas Sarkozy in 2010. Sarkozy was eventually cleared in the case.

Paris-born Bettencourt joined her father Eugene Schueller's firm as an apprentice at the age of 15, mixing cosmetics and labelling bottles of shampoo.

She inherited the family fortune when her father Eugene Schueller, a chemist, died in 1957, though she delegated the day-to-day management of the firm. A widow since 2007, Bettencourt ceased to sit on L'Oreal's board in 2012. —Reuters

Miss U pageant: Online democracy at work

Fans can now help Miss Philippines Maxine Medina or any other candidate earn a spot in the Top 12 with just one click.

Online voting for the Miss Universe pageant now allows fans across the world to cast their votes 10 times a day using any of the four voting options until Jan. 28, or two days before the coronation.

The voting window was opened on Jan. 24 (10:30 a.m. ET).

Fans, according to the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), can vote for their favorite candidate on the official Miss U App, on the website vote.missuniverse.com, on Twitter by using #MissUniverse and the country-specific hashtag found on the voting site or by downloading the new mobile messaging app, Vodi.

They can also play virtual judge on the day of the pageant during the telecast. Viewers will also be entitled to up to 10 votes to distribute among the semifinalists for each round of the competition, ultimately helping choose the winner of Miss Universe.

For this year, the pageant’s format has also been modified with the selection of Top 12 semifinalists in the preliminary competition instead of the usual Top 15.

The semifinalists will then be trimmed down to nine candidates, from which the Top 6 and later the Top 3 will be selected.

The new format allows fans and viewers to learn more about each of the contestant’s accomplishments, interests and objectives as Miss Universe, according to the MUO.

The organization also encouraged fans to visit http://missuniverse.com for the official rules and for other information on the online voting.

Appeals  to the government to declare Jan. 30—the day of the Miss Universe coronation—a holiday were unsuccessful.

The Office of the Executive Secretary on Thursday said Jan. 27, the eve of the Chinese New Year, and Jan. 30 would be regular working days.

But in Manila, Mayor Joseph Estrada suspended work in government offices and classes at all levels in Binondo, Santa Cruz and Quiapo on Jan. 27, in observance of the Chinese New Year.

The Philippines is the host for the Miss Universe 2016 contest, a venture that officials have touted as a showcase for the country’s natural wonders and other assets.

How Looking for the Right Facial Cleanser Is Like Dating

Since I was teenager I realized that choosing the right facial cleanser is quite a challenge. It’s almost like dating until you find the right partner. You date some for a few days only to find out they flake out at the last minute. Some you date for a few weeks and just before you think you can call it a steady arrangement, you suddenly get a zit and find it’s been doing more harm than good.

You can try your luck as much as you want with the different brands out there in the market and cast your net wide but it still boils down to one thing: You’ve got to know what you want for yourself—your skin has needs and problems only a few can adjust to. So the next time you’re shopping for the right cleanser, keep the following things in mind.

#1 Stick to a good standard
It is easy to get distracted with the boisterous claims different cleansers have on their labels. Amid those huffing and puffing alpha brands, choose the one which has all the basics dermatologists would approve of. An ideal facial cleanser is hypoallergenic, unscented, void of any artificial colors, clinically proven to cleanse without causing damage, contains no parabens, and is preferably made with organically sourced ingredients.

#2 Avoid getting too harsh
Recently, some cleansers have tapped into our fear of bacteria living in our pores and thus, justifies why they’re upping your facial wash game with antibiotics. But according to dermatologists, using cleansers with antibacterial properties might just harm your skin because the harmful bacteria on your skin will eventually become resistant to the antibacterial properties of your cleanser over time. Only those with serious skin problems should use these kinds of soaps prescribed by their attending dermatologist.

#3 Look for the gentle touch
Antibacterial soaps aren’t the only culprits because even commonplace ingredients in the beauty world such as kojic acid and papaya extract aren’t necessarily always good for your skin. Your facial wash should only have mild ingredients and the least amount of preservatives possible to maintain or restore your skin’s natural balance.

#4 When it’s right, it’s for the long haul
Once you’ve found the cleanser that fits the descriptions we’ve given above, you should be set for a long time. The qualities of a good cleanser apply whether you have oily, dry, or combination skin. Changing cleansers frequently will cause more problems and introduce more substances that your skin might not agree with. Hence, choose a cleanser that’s mild enough for dry skin but effective in removing excess oil and dirt like Savonneux.

Savonneux is a facial foam cleanser that can remove makeup and excess oil and dirt without using harmful chemicals or parabens. Its mild formulation is good for all skin types and when used at least twice daily will leave skin instantly refreshed and revitalized. Even if you have changing needs, Savonneux is the type of cleanser that will still be able to adjust to your problems and bring back your skin to its natural and healthy state.

Savonneux Liquid Cleanser. Available in David’s Salon, Bench Pcx and Spirae Derm Store, G/F Glorietta 3. May also be purchased online via spiraederm.com, Zalora, and Lazada.

Kylie Lip Kits Were Restocked and Sold Out In Just 20 Minutes

When Kylie Jenner announced that she was restocking all eight of her Kylie Lip Kit colors, we figured everyone got their cash and credit cards ready in case it gets sold out fast again like the last time. Well, unluckily for some, the restocked lip kits are also sold out and it only took 20 minutes.

Aside from individually selling the lippies, Kylie Cosmetics also decided to sell a set of all eight of them in the box. This was probably enough motivation for everyone to start crowding the website because it eventually crashed because of the amount of shoppers that were ordering and hoping to get their hands on their own Lip Kit.

This may be sad for those who have been vying for their own lippy since day one, but hey, you can still get dupes that are as good from your nearby cosmetic store while waiting for the next restock.

Israel holds its first transgender beauty contest

TEL AVIV, Israel — Nearly 30 transgender women strutted down the catwalk in skinny jeans, crop tops and stiletto heels at a Tel Aviv club on Thursday, vying for a chance to enter the first “Miss Trans Israel” beauty pageant.

Tel Aviv has emerged as one of the world’s most gay-friendly travel destinations, standing in sharp contrast to most of the rest of the Middle East, where gays can face persecution.

Israela Stephanie Lev, the pageant’s organizer, said that in the past it was “terrible” living as a transgender woman in Israel. But today, people are more accepting, she said.

“Definitely we are achieving, enlightening the people to accept and empower transsexuals,” she said.

Among the contestants was Talleen Abu Hanna, a 21-year-old from a Catholic Arab family in the northern city of Nazareth. She said she came to the audition because she wants to do something with her life.

“I have this something, I am a dancer, and I am a singer, I play the trumpet. I have something to give the people,” she said. Although Israel’s more conservative Arab society is often unaccepting of gays, Abu Hanna said her family accepts and supports her.

“We are normal people. This is normal,” she said.

Elian Nesiel, a 20-year-old contestant, said she believes that being transgender is “gradually accepted more and more.”

“Yes, it’s a process, like everything,” she said.

Israel is generally tolerant toward gays and transgender people. Gays openly serve in Israel’s military, as does at least one openly transgender soldier. In 1998, a transgender singer, Dana International, won the popular Eurovision song contest.

But homosexuality is shunned in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities. Last year, an extremist ultra-Orthodox Jew stabbed a teenage girl to death at a Jerusalem Pride parade.

Finalists will compete at a pageant in May, and the winner will represent Israel at the Miss Trans Star International pageant to be held in Spain in August.

5 Tips on How to Do the Latest Beauty Trends

Looking at the spring/summer runways, the upcoming makeup trends are polar opposites. One one end, you’ve got Marni, Moschino, and Proenza Schouler going for a natural look, focusing on thicker lashes, full brows and dewy skin. Heavy contouring isn’t the thing anymore. On the other hand, you’ve got wild child ambitions with colorful and almost messy looks from Issey Miyake, Vivienne Westwood, and Kenzo.

So the question is: How do I pull these off effectively? We asked MAC senior makeup artist Louise Zizzo, whose worked with Gwen Stefani, Cyndi Lauper, and Missy Elliot, just exactly what one can do to be able to strobe effectively and add a pop of color to the eyes without overhauling our makeup collection.

What will be the eyebrow trend this coming season?
It’s still all about having a full-on brow. One trend we have is how to look like you have little to no makeup at all and one way to [help pull that off] is to have thick and healthy brows. We need to make it look natural with very, thin feather-like and hair-like follicles strokes but not boxing them in and heavily outlining them.

How can one be able to do a pink or coral eyeshadow look without seeming as if they haven’t slept or their eyes look sore?
It’s about keeping [your choices] within the taupe and peaches. If the coral shade registers too orange on your skin rather than peach, that’s when it’s going to look like you have a sore eye. Keeping it on a more muted version rather than a vivid one will make those eyeshadows wearable.

You should also prep the eyes properly. If you don’t, any kind of shadow is going to oxidize so any shadow is going to look darker and more intense.

Strobing and highlighting using a powder can make pores larger. What can you advise to those women who want to get that highlighted look without using a cream?
If you can’t avoid using a powder, I would suggest just combining it first with a setting spray or solution. Adding that liquid would make it of a better consistency for dry skin and give you a naturally dewy look.

How can girls with oily skin use strobing to their advantage?
I would suggest using the strobe cream or highlighter underneath their foundation. A mattifying foundation would make it look like the glow is from within rather than an oily sheen or sweat over your face.

What are the five essential products needed to achieve this season’s looks?
A good red lipstick, a tube of waterproof mascara, a blue eyeliner, green eyeshadow, and satin-finish powders or products to help achieve strobing.

Balenciaga confirms departure of designer Alexander Wang

PARIS, France - French couture house Balenciaga on Friday confirmed it was parting ways with its American creative director Alexander Wang after nearly three years.

"Balenciaga and Alexander Wang today announce their joint decision not to renew their contract beyond its initial term," Balenciaga and its holding company Kering said in a statement, confirming a report in the Women's Wear Daily fashion publication.

"Alexander Wang will show his final collection for Spring/Summer 2016 womenswear on 2 October 2015 in Paris," Balenciaga said, adding a new creative director would be named "in due course".

Born in California to Taiwanese parents he launched his own label -- a mix of relaxed chic and streetwise edge -- in 2007 when he was just 23.

His arrival at Balenciaga in late 2012 followed the departure of Nicolas Ghesquiere, who was considered to have made the label very much his own during his 15-year tenure.

Balenciaga chief executive Isabelle Guichot praised Wang's "important contribution" to the brand's style, history and growth.

Rihanna’s 25-kg Met dress thrusts Chinese designer Guo Pei into spotlight

BEIJING - Among the opulent outfits on display at last week's Met Gala, one dramatic design stole the show.

Singer Rihanna's canary yellow cape dress, trimmed with fur the color of egg yolk and embroidered with flowers, swept behind her in a seemingly endless train as she arrived for the ball at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the biggest nights in the fashion year.

Social media lit up with chat about the dress, and the fashion magazine Vogue promptly put it on the front cover of its Met Gala Special Edition, catapulting its Chinese creator Guo Pei into the international spotlight.

Guo, a brand designer turned haute couture stylist already well-known in China, says the empress-style gown, one of her most ambitious creations, took some two years to make from its conception in 2008.

"Just designing, choosing the cloth, confirming the color and getting the material woven in Italy took almost half a year, more or less," Guo said at her studio in north Beijing.

The designer, who admitted she did not know much about Rihanna when she received the call from the Grammy Award winner, said the 25-kg (55-pound) outfit was designed to be difficult to wear to reflect the responsibilities and challenges of an empress.

"I was really not convinced that she would be able to wear it because ... it's very heavy," Guo said. "But she later told me 'This piece of clothing is so beautiful' [and] that ... she gained the courage [to wear it]. I really admired that."

The gown is now back with the designer, who hopes to display it in a museum one day.

Guo says she is now getting used to being in the spotlight. "I have no requirement to gain a certain level of fame," she said. "I just want to do really beautiful designs that everyone likes." — Reuters

London's fashion pack turns focus to business for online sales

LONDON - Britain's emerging talent kicked off the first day of London Fashion Week with designs featuring oversized coats, geometric shapes and voluminous skirts, amid hopes online demand for luxury goods is growing stronger.

Delicate embroidered dresses paired with cropped jackets highlighted Turkish designer Bora Aksu's show on Friday, in colors of gold, dusty pinks and pale blue inspired by Irish writer Oscar Wilde's The Nightingale and the Rose.

Earlier, Korean-born designer Eudon Choi sent models down the runway in boxy leather jackets decorated with colorful geometric shapes, oversized scarves and floral printed flares.

More than 5,000 buyers, journalists and bloggers have flocked to London to see emerging talent like Aksu and Choi showcase their designs alongside leading designers Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood and Burberry's Christopher Bailey.

This season sees the British Fashion Council (BFC) focus on how designers can grow their businesses into successful brands and boost growth in Britain's 26 billion pound ($39.98 billion) fashion industry.

"It is fantastic that we are seeing these young businesses going from strength to strength," Chief Executive Caroline Rush told Reuters.

"The next stage of course is thinking about e-commerce and online businesses and again as part of our business pillar, I'm working closely with the tech sector looking at some quick wins and some really strong guys to help in e-commerce," Rush added.

With online fashion sales expected to reach 19 billion pounds in the next four years, according to research firm Mintel, designers are turning to social media like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to help drive more online purchases.

"We have been very focused on the past year or so, helping designers to understand how they can best use social media," Rush said.

Aksu said the networks were the perfect tool to help his label grow internationally and gain recognition.

Camille Juras, who three weeks ago launched what she called a vegan shoe company making footwear with micro fibers rather than animal leather, said she had already generated sales from using social media websites.

"Social media is key. It all starts with online presence and then you grow," said Juras. "On Instagram, it was instant. You would launch your page, people would start to like you, like your products and that started the sales process."
