Eat Bulaga’s ‘Kalyeserye’ officially ends

Fans of the phenomenal hit “Kalyeserye,” a segment in the long-running noontime variety show Eat Bulaga finally reached its end last Saturday, Sept. 3.

The final episode featured the “The Explorer” sisters as they departed for the US. Lola Nidora then entrusted her most precious granddaughter “Maine” to “Alden” while they are away.

The phenomenal love team of Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards, who already play themselves in the comedy series, arranged a surprise despedida party for the two grandmas.

The despedida party featured emotional throwback of scenes and stills, which are some of the most remarkable moments in the series.

The show, which started off with Lola Nidora’s objections over Alden’s pursuance of then “Yaya Dub,” ended up earning Lola Nidora’s trust and approval.

The outrageously hilarious show that gave birth to the extraordinary characters Lola Nidora, Lola Tinidora and Lola Tidora played by the comedic trio of Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola and Paolo Ballesteros, collectively known as JoWaPao, inevitably made some audiences emotional with their final episode. But though the show has ended, the grandmas promised that they shall return.

Maine Mendoza, Jeron Teng win in Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards

TV personality and the other half of the “AlDub” love team Maine Mendoza and De La Salle University cager Jeron Teng both got an orange blimp for winning at the 2016 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

Fans voted for Mendoza to win the Favorite Pinoy Personality Award. She beat out Enrique Gil, James Reid and Kathryn Bernardo for the said title.

She was not able to get her blimp personally, however, she opted to give a short message to her fans. “I’m away for vacation, maybe this will do, for now. I love you all,” she said.

Meanwhile, Teng was picked by fans as their Favorite Asian Sports Star. He beat out Pandelela of Malaysia, Kim Kurniawan of Indonesia and Irfan Fandi of Singapore for the award.

In his message, the La Salle basketball star said he hopes to inspire kids to become a student-athlete like him.

“I wanna thank everyone who supported and voted for me. And I just feel really blessed right now, and I just hope for the kids to… I hope I can inspire them to be a student-athlete like me. And God bless everyone,” he said. AJH/RAM

AlDub’s gross earnings as product endorsers: P200M and counting

ALDUB—the popular noontime TV love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza—has become the country’s hottest endorser of consumer products.

In just seven months since its debut on TV in July 2015, AlDub’s combined earnings have reached P200 million—based on conservative estimates by sources interviewed by Inquirer Lifestyle.

The number of TV commercials, billboard and print ads that bear their faces, as a pair or individually, is currently pegged at 41: McDonald’s, Talk N’ Text, O+ Ultra, 555 Sardines, 555 Carne Norte, Zonrox, Bear Brand Adult Plus, Tide, Downy, Datu Puti, Rejoice, Hapee Toothpaste, Coca-Cola, Lady’s Choice, Bingo Cookie Sandwich, Gard Shampoo, Cadbury, Eskinol, CDO Funtastyk Young Pork Tocino, Snow Caps Glutathione, Belo, Bench, Bench Fix Salon, Metrobank, Neozep, Nescafe, Nescafe Creamy White, Doña Maria Rice, Boardwalk, Nestea, Technomarine, PhilPlans, Avon, Betadine Fresh Bliss, Lucky Me, Lemon Square Cheese Cake/Lava Cake, Sterling Notebook, Magnolia Ice Cream, Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdog, and Modess.

Alden commands a higher amount than Maine, a source who requested anonymity said: “Mga P5 million si Alden, P1.5 million si Maine.”

Those figures, according to the source, became standard rates after AlDub’s series of McDonald’s TV ads were enthusiastically received by the public.

For Alden’s 555 Carne Norte and Maine’s 555 Sardines endorsements, each was paid “definitely seven figures,” said another source. “The rates were reasonable, relative to their popularity.”

A third source, with direct knowledge of the 555 ads’ impact, noted: “Sales increased by over 50 percent overall. Social media stats went through the roof in terms of number of Twitter impressions, Facebook page views and interaction. Brand equity improved; the ads helped 555 stand out in a crowded category of more than 10 brands.”

For Alden’s Hapee toothpaste ad, “he received “P5 million,” said a fourth source.

Based on the 41 product endorsements, AlDub’s combined gross earnings have reached at least P200 million—less 20 to 30 percent commission for GMA Talent Center and Television and Production Exponents (Tape), Alden and Maine’s management, respectively.

That’s not even counting Alden’s fees from shows or mini-concerts here and abroad.

Contracted to sing three songs on minus-one in a Christmas event last year, Alden was paid P350,000—the same amount he will receive in each of a couple of shows this month and in April.

In what could have been the biggest offer yet for a virtually untested tandem—as live performers in a full-length show, at least—an audacious  producer named Joed Serrano dangled P20 million for a two-night AlDub Valentine concert.

The offer was eventually declined by AlDub’s handlers, deemed a wise decision because Alden and Maine have zero experience as concert acts.

Observers hope that, in due time, AlDub—or even just Alden—would express a desire to expand their talent and be recognized as legitimate artists. Imagine how much they’d be worth by then.

Ano kaya iyon? Abangan. -- FRJ, GMA News

Get to know Russian model Alina Bogdanova, Kalyeserye's Cindy Kournikova

Maine Mendoza posts messages after getting back social media accounts from hackers

Maine Mendoza made a triumphant return to social media on Tuesday, hours after hackers took over her accounts.

The Kalyeserye sweetheart posted a message after taking back control of her Twitter account.

But she has not gotten access to all her accounts quite yet, with her Facebook account being deactivated by hackers and her email account still out of reach.

Anonymous Philippines took responsibility for the hacking in the wee hours of Tuesday, posting messages directing Maine's 2.4 million followers to their social media pages.

Maine Mendoza's sister says Twitter hack a 'desperate move'

Martes nang madaling araw nang ma-hack ng grupong "Anonymous Philippines" ang Twitter account ng Dubsmash Queen at Kalyeserye sweetheart na si Maine Mendoza a.k.a. Yaya Dub.

"We sincerely apologize for the recent intrusion of your beloved Idol's Twitter account. You can rest assure that we don't have any malicious intent towards the said individual or any programs pertaining to that person. We just wanted to send a message to the public, and using Maine's account is one of the easiest way we could find," paliwanag nila.

Dagdag pa ng grupo, "Rest assured that we are doing our best to contact the respectful owner of the said twitter account with the purpose of giving them back their access."

Maine-lookalike Megan Young dresses up as Yaya Dub for Halloween

More than a few fans have noted the resemblance between Marimar star and Miss World 2013 Megan Young and Kalyeserye sweetheart Maine Mendoza.

Megan has in fact admitted that she is a fan of the phenomenal AlDub tandem featuring Maine and Alden Richards.

“Nakakatuwa sila. Sobrang natutuwa ako and it brightens up my day when I see them. Nagso-stalk pa ako sa IG niya and sa IG ni Alden,” Megan said in an interview last August.

It thus came as little surprise when Megan decided to channel Yaya Dub for Halloween this past weekend.

AlDub gets featured in Singapore's leading newspaper

The AlDub love story has truly become a global phenomenon, winning the attention of international news and media companies.

Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza land another feature on Singapore’s broadsheet The Straits Times today, November 1.

The newspaper explained how the Kalye-serye love team has a huge mass appeal.

It claimed, “Experts say AlDub has been a huge success because it resonates with Filipinos pining for a return to old-fashioned values as a counter-balance to the crass culture that has become pervasive online.”

“Beyond the story line, the two lead stars appeal to millions because they come off as believable bearers of the values their show represents, unlike many other celebrities, who are regarded as caricatures of excess and superficiality,” it added.

What Americans think of AlDub, Eat Bulaga's Kalyeserye

Since the phenomenal love team of Alden Richards and Maine "Yaya Dub" Mendoza broke the internet, more and more people are getting wind of Eat Bulaga's KalyeSerye.

News and lifestyle website BuzzFeed uploaded a video Friday of Americans reacting to AlDub. The video has gained over 10,000 views on YouTube as of this writing.

The Americans whom BuzzFeed invited totally had no idea about the love team at first, with some of them thinking AlDub was a gasoline station or a cute dolphin.

After the first Kalyeserye episode was shown to them, a lot of the reactions were positive.

"He's totally hot," said one woman of Alden Richards.

"This show is totally electric. I don't know what the (expletive) is going on, but it's just like a whirlwind of fun (expletive)," another man mused.

"Say goodbye to your 'Desperate Housewives,' your 'Parks and Recreation,' throw that (expletive) out. Eat Bulaga is coming to the States," the same man added.

Alden: No P100 million offer for AlDub to endorse politician

Read: Alden Richards gets 8-digit offer for major concert in Araneta Coliseum

“Wala pong lumapit to offer that much money.”

Tugon niya, “Ako po, personally, I really don’t want to endorse po.

“Kasi, kumbaga, let them be.

“Iba po ‘tong showbiz sa politics. I don’t wanna mix it po.”

Dagdag pa ni Alden, “Personally, the management din po, may mga offers din po before, during first two months ng AlDub.

“There have been offers to endorse political party or political person.

—PEP

AlDub loveteam catches BBC’s attention as ‘social media phenomenon’

Sabi pa sa artikulo, "And it isn't just the local fans. US politicians and even alternative rock bands, have declared their love for the show and its young stars."

Sabi ni Daphne tungkol sa tambalan nina Alden at Yaya Dub, "Actors and actresses are often paired up so fans hope they end up together in real life. But what's different about 'AlDub'... is that it wasn't just the creation of a TV network or movie production."

Ayon naman kay Rico, "They appear very down-to-earth. I believe that one big reason they are so popular is because the actors are very humble despite their massive success—they keep thanking fans as well as everyone who supports their work."

Nabanggit din sa artikulo ang pagiging third fastest-growing celebrity on Twitter ni Maine, "after US singers Taylor Swift and Katy Perry."

Tungkol naman sa pagiging global phenomenon ng AlDub sa Twitter, sabi ni Daphne, "None of it was planned. It's not like the show hired social media experts to strategise a plan—they realised what they had: a new and younger social-media savvy audience."

-PEP.ph
