Holy Week exodus starts peaking, cops brace for more passengers Monday

The exodus to the provinces for Holy Week began to peak this weekend, even as police brace for even more passengers heading for bus terminals, airports and seaports starting Monday.

Bus terminal managers expect many passengers who had booked provincial trips to show up beginning Holy Monday, radio dzBB reported early Sunday.

On Saturday, the dzBB report said police estimated some 7,000 passengers went to the Araneta bus terminal in Quezon City to get trips to the provinces.

Many passengers waited for as long as four to five hours before getting a bus ride.

Security has been doubled at the bus terminal with personnel checking not only passengers but also their luggage.

The report said the Land Transportation Office conducted a surprise inspection on the bus terminal and was satisfied with its security arrangements.
