Apple's new iMessage tool helps you get over your iPhone

Moving away from Apple's iPhone for one reason or another but worried you'll still get iMessages? Now, there's a tool for that.

Apple's new tool allows an iPhone owner to remove his or her phone number from Apple's proprietary iMessage system.

Users may log on to the deregister iMessage website and follow the on-screen instructions, and will have to enter a confirmation code to be sent to the phone.

Tech site The Verge said the site, first seen by a poster on Reddit, may help address a complaint by former iPhone users that they are not getting text messages from friends.

It turned out users who switched away from iOS but failed to disable iMessage first cannot see messages sent from Apple devices.

"If you don't switch devices often, the new tool may seem insignificant, but for those who often swap SIM cards into different devices for work, it should make the transition smoother," The Verge said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
