New iPhone accessory wakes you with bacon scent

Smartphone owners who would rather wake up to the smell of bacon than to the plain old boring alarm may want this new gadget from an institute dedicated to bacon.

The Oscar Mayer Institute for the Advancement of Bacon is holding a contest where people can win an iPhone dongle that releases a bacon scent, tech site Mashable reported.

Mashable said the dongle plugs into the iPhone's headphone jack, and works with an iOS app that triggers the release of the bacon scent once the alarm sounds.

The app's name? "Wake Up and Smell The Bacon."

It quoted Tom Bick, senior director of integrated marketing and advertising at Oscar Mayer, as saying this will be the "first-ever, bacon-scented mobile device to market, giving bacon aficionados a new reason to welcome their morning alarm clocks.”

Bick added the institute's team "decided to develop a device to give folks what they long for most.”

However, Mashable noted Oscar Mayer is making only a limited number of such devices, and these will not be sold but will be offered through a contest.

"Fans will have to apply for a shot at winning one of the dongles by taking a quiz on Oscar Mayer's website. The contest runs through April 4 and winners will receive their bacon-scented devices within six to eight weeks," it added. — LBG, GMA News
