Maine, Wally receive Catholic Social Media Awards in Alden’s hometown

Maine "Yaya Dub" Mendoza, Wally Bayola and representatives of TAPE Inc. on Sunday visited Alden Richards' hometown of Sta. Rosa, Laguna to be honored at the first Catholic Social Media Awards.

Mendoza, Richards and TAPE Inc., were each given achievement awards, while Bayola received an inspirational award for imparting Filipino values and chastity through the phenomenal "KalyeSerye" on Eat Bulaga.

Bayola, who attended the event in character as Lola Nidora, thanked the entire AlDub Nation for their tireless support.

"Makakaasa po kayo na ang 'KalyeSerye' ay patuloy pong magbibigay ng daan para magbahagi ng mga kabutihang asal, pagmamahal sa kapwa, at pagmamahal sa Diyos," he said in his acceptance speech.

Bayola also said of receiving the Catholic Social Media Awards, "Ito na ang tamang panahon."

Mendoza, in her real voice, also gave a short thank-you speech, saying, "Maraming salamat, AlDub Nation. AlDub you!" amid resounding cheers from fans.

Admins of the official AlDub trendsetters, the people behind the daily AlDub hashtags, also received an achievement award for making the love team a hit on Twitter.

The first Catholic Social Media Awards concluded the two-day Catholic Social Media Summit, an event organized by Catholic youth groups Youth Pinoy and Areopagus Communications.

Sky Ortigas, president of Youth Pinoy, said that the people behind Eat Bulaga's KalyeSerye deserved to be recognized not only because of their "kilig" factor, but also because of the values they impart to their audiences.

"As an organization that aims to spread Filipino values online and on social media, they make our job a lot easier," she told GMA News Online. — BM, GMA News
